Your comfortable pace
Interested, even when you reply slowly
How to explain your rhythm without turning every message into an apology.

You can enjoy getting to know someone and still prefer to reply when you have a little space. They may prefer a quicker exchange. Neither person needs to guess what the other means.
A short conversation about pace can help you discover whether your everyday rhythms work together.
Describe what works for you
Try being specific about your usual rhythm, without promising something you can’t maintain.
“I’m enjoying talking with you. I’m usually away from my phone during work, but I like catching up in the evening.”
Or: “I tend to send a few thoughtful messages rather than chat all day. How do you like to keep in touch?” That last question matters: this is a conversation, not a rule being handed down.
Make interest visible
When you reply, show that you noticed what the person said. Ask about the book they mentioned, remember the plan they were looking forward to, or offer something about your own day. Attention can come through in what you say, as well as when you say it.
You don’t need to apologise for every ordinary gap. If you disappear from an ongoing conversation for longer than expected, a brief explanation can be considerate.
Leave room for different needs
Some people enjoy frequent contact. Others prefer more space. A slower reply does not prove disinterest, and a faster reply does not prove compatibility. Ask what feels comfortable rather than using the clock to decide what someone feels.
If your needs are different, you can discuss a rhythm that works for both of you. You can also recognise that the connection may not be a fit. Neither outcome requires someone to be wrong.
Use your preferences as a starting point
ShyFriends’ Comfort Profile lets you choose your reply pace, how you feel about calls, and the kind of first meeting you prefer. You can also choose whether your reply pace appears on introduction cards.
Those preferences can help you put your comfort into words. They don’t replace asking the other person, and not every Comfort Profile answer is displayed to other members.
Let your pace change
A busy week, a quieter weekend, or a connection that grows more familiar can change what feels right. You can update your preferences and tell someone when your rhythm shifts.
The aim is to find a way of keeping in touch that you both want to return to.
